Your hands come in contact with many unsanitary items throughout the day. Hand sanitizer is a quick and if used correctly, effective way to kill 99% of germs.
Alcohol based hand sanitizers have been shown to be an effective tool to combat infections due to HARMFUL germs. Quality hand sanitizer will contain at least 60% alcohol in order to kill microorganisms then washing with anti-bacterial soap. However, sanitizer with at least 75% alcohol is even better. Since 2020, hand sanitizer has been a must have in many homes. A quality hand sanitizer will not only kill harmful germs but will not leave your hands sticky and dry. Quality hand sanitizers may cost a bit more but are worth it in the long run. Health officials across the country have been adamant about hand washing, however, when soap and water isn't readily available, a good hand sanitizer will be sufficient to kill germs.
Hand sanitizers are regulated as over-the-counter (non-prescription) drugs by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If you use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, read and follow the Drug Facts label, particularly the warnings section.
Store hand sanitizer out of the reach of pets and children, and kids should use it only with adult supervision. Call your doctor or the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 if you experience a serious reaction to hand sanitizer.
